CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 83% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

5 Gold CFD Brokers in Europe for 2026

Choosing a gold CFD broker means comparing more than the platform interface. Your shortlist should reflect the tools you need, the company holding your account and the full cost of trading XAU/USD. A low advertised spread is only one part of that decision.

This guide compares Mitrade, Pepperstone, CMC Markets, IG and XTB based on publicly available information about their gold CFD offerings in Europe. It examines platform features, regulation, commission models and contract structure to help you assess which offering fits your requirements. Gold CFDs are derivatives; they do not give you ownership of bullion.

Published by Mitrade. This is a selected comparison of public information, checked on 21 October 2026, not an independent ranking or live execution test. Mitrade is presented first as the publisher's own service. Numbers identify sections, not performance scores. German product terms are labelled and should not be assumed to apply throughout the EU. Availability and conditions depend on the client's country of residence and the entity providing the service.

Overview of selected European entities and published gold CFD costs

BrokerRelevant entity and oversightProduct or cost comparison point
MitradeMitrade EU Limited; CySEC 438/23No separate trading commission; variable spread and overnight funding
PepperstoneEU Limited: CySEC 388/20; GmbH: BaFin 151148EU Standard versus Razor XAU/USD pricing; German entity terms differ
CMC MarketsGermany GmbH; BaFin 154814German Gold spread from 0.2 points; holding costs and order terms
IGIG Europe GmbH; BaFin 148759 and Deutsche BundesbankCash versus futures-referenced CFDs and financing treatment
XTBS.A. German Branch; BaFin registered, principally KNF supervisedGerman CFD commission 0%; applicable conversion costs 0.5%

The cost entries describe different fee components, not a cheapest-broker ranking. Minimum spreads, commissions and conversion percentages cannot be compared directly. Confirm the instrument, position size, platform, account currency and holding period first. Availability depends on residence and entity.

1. Mitrade for integrated tools and no separate trading commission

Mitrade combines its proprietary WebTrader and mobile apps with charting, watchlists, alerts and order tools. Its fee model offers a concrete comparison point: there is no separate trading commission, while variable spreads, overnight funding and other applicable charges remain. That can appeal to readers who want to examine the gold contract and its costs within the provider's own interface.

Regulation and account entity

  • EU provider: Mitrade EU Limited, authorised and regulated by CySEC under licence 438/23.

  • Geographic scope: its published scope excludes Belgium and countries outside the EEA. Eligibility must be checked for the applicant's residence.

  • Client protections: the EU service describes segregated client funds and negative balance protection. These do not prevent losses on a gold CFD position.

Gold CFD product and cost details

  • Commission: no separate trading commission. Spreads, overnight funding and other applicable fees still apply.

  • Spread: variable; use the current gold product quote and its contract specification.

  • Overnight funding: applies to positions held beyond the relevant settlement time; instrument-specific rates are shown in the service.

  • Tools: own WebTrader and mobile apps with technical charts, watchlists and alerts; virtual demo access is available.

The practical attraction is the combination of a provider-owned platform and its commission structure. For a position held over several days, the overnight funding rate should also be considered alongside the spread. Third-party payment or currency-related charges can also arise; zero trading commission does not mean zero total costs.

2. Pepperstone for comparing Standard and Razor gold pricing

Pepperstone is relevant when account configuration is part of your decision. Its English EU pricing page distinguishes a Standard model from Razor raw-spread-plus-commission pricing on XAU/USD. Its platform range includes MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView and its own interface, subject to account availability.

Regulation and account entity

  • English EU service: Pepperstone EU Limited, CySEC licence 388/20.

  • German service: Pepperstone GmbH, supervised by BaFin under registration number 151148. This is a separate entity with its own applicable terms.

Gold CFD product and cost details

  • EU Razor pricing: the English EU pricing page quotes commission from $3.50 per lot, per side on FX and XAU/USD, alongside raw spreads. The rate depends on platform, account currency and trade size.

  • Standard pricing: the English EU page describes costs within the spread, apart from overnight funding and its stated exceptions.

  • Overnight costs: swap adjustments can be debits or credits; current rates are instrument- and platform-specific.

  • Product specification: minimum trade size and point value need to be taken from the precise gold symbol; a general 0.01-lot statement is not a specification for every instrument.

The quoted English EU commission is not a promise about Pepperstone GmbH's German gold tariff. Match the entity and instrument before applying a rate. Raw-spread pricing needs both opening and closing commissions in a round-trip calculation; it is not automatically cheaper than a spread-only model.

3. CMC Markets for published gold spread and order specifications

CMC Markets offers a way to compare a published gold spread with a broader charting and order environment. Its German Next Generation platform information includes technical indicators, drawing tools and several order types.

Regulation and account entity

  • German provider: CMC Markets Germany GmbH, authorised and regulated by BaFin under registration number 154814.

Gold CFD product and cost details

  • Published spread: the German CFD pricing page lists Gold from 0.2 points. This is a published minimum, not an average or guaranteed spread.

  • Monetary cost: multiply the relevant spread by the monetary point value for your exact position; do not compare point figures without contract size.

  • Holding costs: review the rate for the selected gold contract and holding period separately from the spread.

  • Order functions: market, limit and stop-entry orders are described, with trailing and guaranteed stops subject to product terms. Guaranteed-stop premiums and restrictions may apply.

The 0.2-point quote is useful as a disclosed product parameter. It does not establish that CMC will have a lower total cost than another broker for the same exposure. Share-CFD commission tables are separate from gold pricing.

4. IG for cash versus futures referenced gold CFDs

IG's gold offering makes contract structure central to the comparison. The German product page distinguishes CFDs on cash gold prices from CFDs referencing gold futures. This matters particularly when positions remain open for more than one session.

Regulation and account entity

  • German provider: IG Europe GmbH, authorised and regulated by BaFin and Deutsche Bundesbank; BaFin registration number 148759.

Gold CFD product and cost details

  • Cash versus futures: compare the chosen contract's financing treatment and expiry arrangements.

  • Overnight treatment: IG's German gold page describes futures-referenced CFDs without a separate overnight holding fee. This is not a zero-total-cost claim; the spread and other contract conditions remain relevant.

  • Order controls: guaranteed stops, where available, have their own terms and premium conditions.

  • Product boundary: a CFD on a futures price is not a directly owned exchange-traded future. IG's other derivatives are outside this comparison.

Compare a cash contract with a futures-referenced contract over the holding period you actually intend to evaluate. A wider spread and different financing treatment can change the result, so a single entry-spread comparison is incomplete.

5. XTB for separating commission from currency conversion costs

XTB is relevant for readers who want to distinguish the visible trading commission from other account costs. Its German conditions page separately publishes CFD commission and CFD currency-conversion charges. GOLD is identified as a CFD, while shares and ETFs have their own conditions.

Regulation and account entity

  • German service: XTB S.A. German Branch is registered with BaFin and is principally supervised by Poland's KNF, as stated in its German legal information. Registration is not the same description as a separate German authorisation.

Gold CFD product and cost details

  • Trading commission: the German conditions page lists 0% commission for CFD trading. Spreads, overnight funding and other applicable costs remain.

  • Currency conversion: the same page lists 0.5% CFD conversion costs when trading in other currencies; assess the applicable conversion basis and your account currency.

  • Platform: mobile and desktop access are described.

  • Contract details: use the GOLD specification for lot size, point value and margin rather than general account-level maximum leverage.

A USD-quoted gold CFD and an EUR account can create currency-conversion questions even when the dealing commission is zero. Compare the full CFD tariff, not the fee headline for a different investment product.

Turn broker numbers into a comparable cost

  • Match the gold exposure. Establish the quote currency, quantity, contract size and monetary value of a point. The same number of lots need not represent the same exposure at different providers.

  • Calculate transaction charges. Use the current spread and add opening and closing commission where charged. Read whether a quoted commission is per side or round trip.

  • Add the holding period. Include overnight funding and multi-day adjustments under the exact contract rules. Assess expiry or rollover for futures-referenced CFDs.

  • Add currency and account costs. Check conversion and payment charges where applicable. Compare amounts in the same account currency.

No quoted minimum spread in this guide is a measured average. No provider is described as the cheapest, fastest or most reliable during news events; those claims would need a separate test methodology and current evidence.

Regulation and leverage answer different questions

Regulation identifies the responsible legal entity and supervisory framework. It does not certify a profitable strategy, guaranteed execution or protection against market losses. An ASIC or FCA licence held elsewhere in a group does not replace the European account entity's authorisation.

Under the applicable EU retail CFD product-intervention measures, leverage for CFDs on gold is limited to 20:1. The measures also include account-level margin close-out and negative balance protection for retail clients under applicable supervisory measures. Providers may impose lower leverage or additional margin requirements. Leverage may amplify losses and the protections described do not prevent losses on CFD positions.

Explore Mitrade's gold CFD terms

Mitrade brings together its own web and mobile platform, integrated analytical tools and no separate trading commission, with other applicable fees remaining. Explore the interface and current charges alongside the XAU/USD specification, Key Information Document and risk disclosure. A virtual demo can help you examine functions; demo results do not establish live performance.

FAQ

How should EU clients compare gold CFD brokers?

There is no universal winner. This shortlist compares different fee structures and contract choices. Mitrade offers its own platform without a separate trading commission; other providers offer different account or contract configurations. Compare the total cost and functions available through the entity serving your country.

Does a regulator number prove my funds cannot be lost?

No. Regulatory status does not prevent market losses. Client-money arrangements and negative balance protection address specific risks and do not make CFDs risk-free.

Can I compare 0.2 points directly with a commission per lot?

No. They measure different cost components. First translate the spread into money for the position, then include any commissions on both sides and the other applicable charges.
