A spokesperson for Qatar's foreign ministry said on Wednesday that Iran's South Pars gas field is an extension of Qatar's North Field, per Reuters.
"Israel's targeting of facilities linked to Iran's South Pars gas field is a dangerous and irresponsible step amid the current military escalation in the region," the spokesperson added.
Earlier in the day, Iran's state television reported that the US and Israeli airstrikes have hit its South Pars natural gas field and associated infrastructure.
Key takeaways
"Targeting energy infrastructure constitutes a threat to global energy security, to the people of the region, and to its environment."
"We call on all parties to exercise restraint, adhere to international law, and work to de-escalate in a manner that preserves the region's security and stability."
Market reaction
Oil prices rose sharply from daily lows and the barrel of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was last seen trading near $97, rising about 3% on a daily basis.
