AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) After Advancing AI 2026: Helios Live, Anthropic Deal, August 4 Next

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - On July 22 and 23, AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) hosted its key product reveal, Advancing AI 2026, at San Francisco's Moscone Center. Shares of AMD were hovering around $553 at the time AMD's CEO, Lisa Su, took the stage for the presentation. The biggest news from the presentation: Helios racks will be in full production for $5 million to $5.5 million each, and will be shipping by the end of 2026 quarter three.

Additionally, AMD inked a deal for up to 2GW worth of MI450 GPUs along with a $5 billion equity commitment from Anthropic and confirmed that OpenAI and Microsoft also deployed Helios. AMD is trading at $547, up 144% this year. AMD reports its Q2 earnings on Aug. 4 with $11.2 billion in revenue expected and EPS at about $1.67 non-GAAP.

What Advancing AI 2026 Actually Delivered

The three takeaways from the Moscone Center event are Helios price, Anthropic, and visibility into the MI500 roadmap. Helios, AMD's second-gen rack-scale platform consisting of MI455X GPUs, Zen 6 EPYC Venice CPUs based on TSMC's 2nm technology, Pensando networking, and the ROCm open-source software stack, is now in full production. At $5 million to $5.5 million per rack, it's in line with pricing for an equivalent NVL from Nvidia. The first shipments are expected by the end of 2026 quarter three, so we should see Helios revenue start to contribute to AMD's Data Center business in 2026 quarter four and 2027 quarter one.

The deal with Anthropic is a strategic win. Already an AMD customer for MI355X accelerators, Anthropic struck a multi-year deal with AMD to purchase up to 2GW of the company's MI450 series GPUs via Helios systems, with the first 1GW to come online in 2027 quarter one. AMD also agreed to commit up to $5 billion in equity investments in Anthropic.

The equity commitment links AMD's balance sheet to Anthropic's fortunes, and it's the biggest bet AMD has made to date to any single AI company. It's very similar to the performance-based warrants that Meta struck: A customer will be incentivized to scale its deployments if the company shares upside if things go well. The risk is that AMD puts out $5 billion before the revenue from the sale of commercial hardware products is realized.

The Intel Read-Through and What It Means for AMD's August 4 Report

Shares of Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) jumped 12.44% on Thursday evening following Intel's Q2 2026 financial results. Revenue came in at $16.128 billion, 12% above the consensus estimate of $14.42 billion, as demand for Xeon server CPUs broadens and Intel's first external 18A order gets confirmed. AMD investors should read into the news positively: AI data centers need both CPUs and GPUs.

Intel's Xeon demand is a good sign for the enterprise server market in Q2 2026, the same period AMD reported results on Aug. 4. AMD has EPYC Venice CPUs based on Zen 6 architecture and TSMC 2nm node manufacturing that were revealed at Advancing AI that are directly competitive to Intel's Xeon. So if Intel's CPU numbers are as bullish as Q2 2026 data points, it will help AMD data center CPU sales.

Bank of America (BAC) analyst Vivek Arya, for example, was optimistic in the pre-Advancing AI days that the data center market could see a surprise quarter due to "exceptional demand" for server processors and "continuing [AMD] CPU share growth" vs. x86 rivals. Similarly, Jefferies (JEF) analyst Blayne Curtis reiterated a Buy rating, $615 price target on the stock, and expected "that AMD will increase its total addressable market estimate for AI processors to over $200 billion" at the Advancing AI event.

Analyst Stacy Rasgon of Bernstein also bumped his price target to $600. On the Street, the consensus is 28 Buy and 7 Hold ratings. Q2 data center results coming out Aug. 4 will be key to determining if AMD's Advancing AI event added momentum and/or substance. The data center quarter was $5.8 billion and AMD guided for total revenue of $11.2 billion for the second quarter.

AMD Technical Setup

AMD at $546.98 is coiled under a downward trendline connecting with the June 30 high of $584.73. Both the 50 EMA ($532.40) and 200 EMA ($489.80) are below price, keeping medium-term bullish structure intact. RSI around 56 is nicely neutral/positive, no danger of being overbought. Resistance sits at $549.65, then the trendline in the $560 to $573 area.

A daily close above that trendline clears $573.60, $595.95, and could lead to a retest of the June 30 high at $584.73. Below $524.80, support is $496.40, then 200 EMA at $489.80.

Key Levels for the Week Ahead

  • Current price: $546.98; YTD gain: +144%; down 6.5% from June 30 high of $584.73
  • Advancing AI: Helios confirmed in full production, $5-5.5M/rack, shipping in Q3 2026
  • Anthropic: 2GW MI450 deployment + $5B AMD equity; first 1GW H1 2027
  • Earnings: Aug 4, after market; consensus: $11.2B revenue, ~$1.67 non-GAAP EPS
  • Trendline: $549.65 (immediate resistance). Above: $573.60, $595.95
  • Support: $524.80, $496.40, 200 EMA $489.80

What Is Helios and Why Does $5.5 Million Per Rack Matter?

It is AMD's AI rack scale computing system that combines MI455X GPUs, Zen 6 EPYC Venice CPUs, Pensando networking and the ROCm software stack into one AI system. It costs somewhere around $5 to 5.5 million per rack, making it AMD's direct alternative to Nvidia's NVL systems.

According to AMD, Anthropic plans to utilize as much as 2 gigawatts of Helios AI systems for its future infrastructure, providing AMD a large long-term hardware opportunity. Although it will take multiple years to deploy the systems, AMD will have long-term demand visibility and will continue to expand its AI production capacity.

What Is the $5 Billion Equity Investment in Anthropic?

AMD will provide up to five billion dollars as a strategic investment to Anthropic, creator of Claude, in multiple tranches as the partnership expands. They have already purchased AI accelerators from AMD and the partnership will see future shipments of MI450-series GPUs through Helios systems beginning in 2027.

The investment provides a long-term opportunity for AMD within a rapidly growing and competitive AI infrastructure market and it will likely also represent a long term financial commitment that many investors will watch closely.

Bottom Line

The closing of the Advancing AI 2026 summit produced 3 specific action items, including the Helios being ready at $5M to $5.5M per rack to start shipping Q3 2026, a 2GW deal with Anthropic worth $5B in stock, and a full roadmap look at MI500. The Intel Q2 beat showed that server space is in a good spot and that's a big plus for the AMD August 4 report.
