SK Hynix to Mass Produce LPDDR6 in Second Half as ADR Price Drop Draws Attention

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - On July 28 during Asian trading hours, according to Korean media outlet The Herald, SK Hynix plans to mass-produce its next-generation low-power mobile DRAM product, LPDDR6, in the second half of 2026.

SK Hynix completed the development and certification of the world's first 1c-process LPDDR6 in March 2026. The product utilizes the sixth-generation 10nm-class (1c) process, improving data processing speed by 33% compared to LPDDR5X and reducing power consumption by more than 20%, mainly targeting on-device AI smartphones and tablet devices.

According to the report, Xiaomi is expected to be among the first batch of customers, and the product will be featured in Xiaomi's next-generation flagship smartphones. The company's partnership with Xiaomi dates back to 2013, when it began supplying LPDDR3 products for certain Xiaomi models, and has since continued to provide mobile DRAM such as LPDDR5X.

Regarding whether LPDDR6 will be supplied to Xiaomi, SK Hynix responded that 'it is unable to confirm information related to specific customers.'

Currently, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix dominate the mobile DRAM market. Samsung released its LPDDR6 product utilizing the 1b process in January 2026 and won an award at CES 2026, posing direct competition to SK Hynix. Meanwhile, China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) is rapidly catching up in market share to third-placed Micron Technology ( MU ).

Aside from the mass production news, SK Hynix's stock price performance has also drawn market attention. On July 27, SK Hynix's ADR ( SKHY) slid as much as 10% intraday before closing down 7.47% at $143.02, dropping below its $149 IPO price. In early Asian trading on July 28, SK Hynix's Korean shares suffered a sharp selloff, tumbling over 12% to 1.589 million won (equivalent to $1,084) as of press time.

Over the past month and a half, SK Hynix's Korean-listed shares have plummeted by nearly 45%, wiping out over $550 billion in market value. Investors' concerns over overcrowded AI thematic trades continue to heat up. SK Hynix is expected to post another record quarterly result on Wednesday, but the market is increasingly focused on the risk that memory chip price hikes could dampen downstream demand. Analysts warn that rising costs may force some customers to scale back purchases and shift to lower-priced alternatives.
