Micron Stock Holds Near $956 as AI Demand Meets Taiwan Labor Risk

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - Micron begins September 3 trading at MU’s latest completed price of $956.08 and at $954.87 after hours, closely matching the $954.36 chart reference. The fundamental setting remains strong. Fiscal Q4 expects $50 billion in revenue and an 86% gross margin. HBM4 is in volume shipments, and key customer contracts improve visibility. The new risk is disruption to the Taiwan labor market that could result in a strike. No production disruption has occurred.

Q3 Results Show Extraordinary Memory Economics

Micron posted $41.46 billion in revenue for fiscal Q3 2026 compared to $23.86 billion in Q2 and $9.30 billion this time last year. GAAP net income was $28.24 billion, and non-GAAP net income was $28.86 billion or $25.11 per diluted share. Cash flow from operations was $25.39 billion.

Cloud Memory revenue was $13.77 billion at an 83% gross margin, and Core Data Center revenue was $11.52 billion at an 87% gross margin. That explains why AI memory drives most of Micron’s earnings.

Q4 Guidance Still Sets an Extraordinary Bar

Management expects $50 billion in fiscal Q4 revenue, plus or minus $1 billion, at an 86% gross margin. GAAP EPS is expected to be $30.73, plus or minus $1.00, and non-GAAP EPS is expected to be $31.00, plus or minus $1.00.

At the midpoint, revenue would grow a estimated 21% from the last quarter. The upcoming earnings report will indicate whether Micron can grow earnings while preserving historically high margins.

HBM4 and Strategic Agreements Support Visibility

According to Micron, lead customers' platforms will use high volume shipments of HBM4 built on 1-beta DRAM. Development for HBM4E using 1-gamma is targeting 2027 for volume production, whereas samples of 256GB of DDR5 RDIMM have been shared with key partners in the server ecosystem.

In addition, Micron shared approximately USD $22 billion of contracted commitments with strategic customers spanning 16 customers. These contracts include structural changes such as protective pricing, deposits, and minimum volume commitments. While many of these contracts include commitments, structural changes should diminish some residual effects of the memory cycle.

Taiwan Labor Dispute Is the Freshest Company Risk

As of September 1, reported by Reuters, Micron's labor unions in Taiwan, which represent around 10,000 of the 15,000 workers in Taoyuan and Taichung, have threatened strike action due to dissatisfaction with their bonus and profit sharing. More than 80% of the union members surveyed were in favor of a strike.

There is no confirmed strike, and there have been no reported disruptions to production. However, because Taiwan manufactures a large part of Micron’s products, an increase in the supply of memory is decreased, and memory is already in short supply.

Industry Signals Still Point to Tight Supply

SK Hynix expects memory shortages to persist through 2030. Meanwhile, ongoing demand for AI servers amplifies DRAM and NAND supply constraints for both Dell and HPE. SK Hynix's supply shortage is further validated by the outcome of Broadcom's recent earnings along with Anthropic's massive commitments for new compute.

The primary concern is not the current demand, but rather how long exceptional pricing will persist in the face of increased capacity. Micron has long-term contracts, but the nature of the memory industry is cyclical.

Micron Technical Analysis: $970 Is the Breakout Trigger

MU closed at $956.08 on September 2, and after hours traded at $954.87, making contact with the chart at $954.36. Price continues to trade in a tight range between descending resistance and rising support while trading above a moving average at $934.98.

The initial breakout range would be around $955–$970. If MU were to make a hourly close above the descending trendline and $970, then a bullish case for a move to $1,034.50 would be very likely. Beyond that $1,034.50 level, the next major targets would be $1,097.35 and $1,164.05.

RSI at 58 shows a mildly bullish setup with the line at 53. On the downside, support is expected to come in at $934.98 and $906.16. If the rising support were to fail, we could see it coming in at $829.46.

Key Levels

·       Latest completed close: $956.08

·       After-hours indication: Around $954.87

·       First support: $934.98

·       Major support: $906.16

·       Breakout zone: $955-$970

·       First upside target: $1,034.50

·       Higher targets: $1,097.35 and $1,164.05

·       RSI: Around 58, moderately bullish

What is Micron's biggest near-term risk?

As far as company-specific risks are concerned, the most important risk factor would be the ongoing labor dispute in Taiwan. Micron has a tight memory supply and the loss of production would be especially important.

What level confirms another MU breakout?

A sustained hourly close above the descending trendline and $970 would confirm stronger momentum and shift focus to $1,034.50.

Bottom Line

Micron has strong AI-memory fundamentals run up to the earnings call on September 30. Positive tailwinds include robust Q4 guidance, high volumes of HBM4 shipments, and some significant customer commitments. A new, credible operational risk is the potential disruption due to labor disputes in Taiwan although there are no confirmed disruptions. Bulls can remain cautiously optimistic about MU trading above $935, and a break above $970 is necessary to begin the move towards $1,034.50.
