Google Is Said to Lose Two More Core AI Staff to Anthropic. Shares Reverse Gains Intraday as Talent Loss May Erode Its AI Competitiveness

Source Tradingkey

TradingKey - Following the recent departure of Google DeepMind Vice President John Jumper to Anthropic, Google's AI team has suffered another major blow with the loss of core talent.

According to media reports, two core Gemini researchers, Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel, are set to join Anthropic. Google's consecutive loss of top R&D talent in a short period has sparked market concerns over its competitiveness in AI technology.

As of press time, Google ( GOOGL) reversed earlier gains to fall 1.16%, trading at $342.07.

It is understood that Google was once in a catch-up position in this AI wave, and only caught up with the top tier late last year relying on its new models and self-developed chips. However, the continuous drain of core talent is disrupting the pace of its technology iterations.

Market analysts noted that the primary driver behind this wave of departures is that leading AI startups like Anthropic are approaching their IPO windows. The potential for pre-IPO equity appreciation is highly attractive to senior researchers at big tech companies.

The mobility of top talent in the AI industry is currently extremely high, with Anthropic being the main poacher of Google's talent. Industry data shows that the probability of DeepMind engineers moving to Anthropic is nearly 11 times higher than the reverse.

Recently, Anthropic's latest valuation has reached $965 billion, surpassing OpenAI to become the world's most highly-valued AI startup. Its IPO process continues to accelerate while expanding into fields like life sciences, which requires a large number of top R&D personnel to support its expansion.

Although Google's management emphasizes that its research team remains leading in size and that talent turnover is an industry norm, the consecutive departures of core architects and frontier researchers will still deal a direct blow to its model innovation and frontier breakthroughs.
