TradingKey - Meta (META)'s personal AI agent app Muse has topped US app stores less than two weeks after launch. As of Monday, the app ranked No. 1 on Apple's iOS free smartphone app chart, surpassing OpenAI's ChatGPT, Polymarket, and Kashi, while also leading competitors such as Anthropic's Claude and SpaceXAI's Grok, as well as Meta's own Meta AI.
Data from Sensor Tower shows that Muse launched on September 8 and reached 730,000 downloads in about five days, rising to the top spot by surpassing ChatGPT last Friday. The firm noted that Muse's cumulative downloads during the same launch window were higher than those of ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok, but different rollout pacing across Apple and Google Play affects total comparisons.

Meta positions Muse as a tool for everyday users to manage a super digital assistant, capable of completing tasks across web pages such as filling out electronic forms and organizing email inboxes. Powered by Meta's Muse Spark family of models, the app marks a key step by CEO Mark Zuckerberg into the AI agent market. Earlier this year, the free, open-source OpenClaw tool popularized this direction among developers and tech enthusiasts.
Muse is free to use, while Meta offers two subscription tiers at $20 and $100 per month differentiated by usage, providing a pathway for the company to monetize AI agents beyond its core online advertising business.
However, Muse's debut comes amid rising industry concerns over AI safety and cybersecurity risks. Meta also recently agreed to pay roughly $17 billion to settle a lawsuit with a coalition of state attorneys general who accused it of making misrepresentations regarding harms to children and teens caused by apps like Facebook and Instagram.
It remains unclear how long Muse's popularity will last. Previously, many AI products saw explosive debuts but failed to maintain long-term popularity, such as OpenAI's Sora and Meta's Vibes AI video tool, the latter of which boosted Meta AI app downloads when it launched last September.
