TradingKey - Bitcoin surges 14% over the past 7 days; Musk's SpaceX sees unrealized gains expand as its BTC holdings cross the $1.6 billion threshold.
On September 23, Bitcoin (BTC) price fluctuated above $86,000, rising 1.2% intraday to trade around $86,183. Over the past 7 days, Bitcoin's cumulative gain reached around 14%, which not only drove a recovery in the crypto market but also lifted asset values for companies with heavy Bitcoin holdings. Among them, Elon Musk's SpaceX (SPCX) became one of the main beneficiaries of this rally.

According to SpaceX's S-1 prospectus (IPO) filing, the company holds approximately 18,712 Bitcoins at an average cost of around $35,000 per coin. As the price of Bitcoin broke through the $86,000 mark, the total value of Bitcoin held by SpaceX officially surpassed $1.6 billion, higher than the $1.29 billion to $1.45 billion valuation disclosed in its previous prospectus.
Although this asset is negligible compared to its total market cap of $2.1 trillion, its potential impact cannot be overlooked. The significant appreciation of SpaceX's BTC holdings allows the company to possess a more solid balance sheet asset scale without conducting a new round of equity financing or issuing additional shares, while enabling it to secure lower interest rates and better terms when applying for bank credit, issuing corporate bonds, or engaging in leveraged financing.
In addition, the space industry is an ultra-capital-intensive, high-risk sector with an extremely long return cycle. The appreciation of crypto assets provides an additional capital buffer for the company's R&D projects with extremely high burn rates, such as its Mars base and space AI data centers. Most importantly, the Bitcoin holdings on SpaceX's balance sheet give its stock a certain 'digital gold/crypto concept stock' attribute, which can attract institutional investors seeking both aerospace tech growth and Bitcoin's hedging value.
