TradingKey - South Korean stocks extended their gains today, with the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) closing up 0.90% at 7,080.92 points. The index rose more than 1% in early trading, but the gains narrowed in the afternoon. Japanese stock markets were closed today for a holiday.

South Korean large-cap tech stocks showed mixed performance. As of the close, Samsung Electronics rose 3.25% to 285,500 won (about $210); SK Hynix gained 1.20% to 1.862 million won.
Overnight US stocks showed mixed performance, with the Nasdaq Composite Index setting another record high and tech stocks remaining generally strong. The semiconductor sector performed particularly well, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rising over 2%, ARM (ARM) gaining over 3%, Qualcomm (QCOM) and ASML (ASML) both rising over 2%.
The memory chip sector was also favored by investors, with SanDisk (SNDK) rising over 6%, Micron Technology (MU) gaining 5%, and Western Digital (WDC) and SK Hynix (SKHY) both rising over 3%.
